New Counselors Join Goodland Office
Counseling Services at Goodland Regional Medical Center will welcome two new counselors in May. Kathryn Morrison and Rick Gardner will replace Valerie Montgomery and Kim Todd, who have been working in the Goodland office for nearly a year.
Counseling services are provided by graduate level interns enrolled in the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Services Program. These counselors-in-training are supervised by a licensed professional counselor. Goodland Regional Medical Center works in collaboration with UCCS to offer counseling services one day each week through its Specialty Clinic.
Kathryn grew up in Kansas City, Kan., and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Ethnic Students from Davidson College in North Carolina in 2004. She worked for two years with troubled teens in Youth Corrections in Colorado Springs and worked for a social work agency in Oklahoma for two years providing family preservation services. She began the Master's program in Community Counseling at UCCS in June 2007. She is interested in both individual and family counseling. When she's not spending time on her career, Kathryn loves being outdoors and in her free time can be found skiing or hiking in the mountains.
Rick hopes that his life experiences will give him insight to others struggles as he begins his work as a counselor. He is a CPA and has been in practice since 1984. He has a Master's Degree in Taxation from Denver University and has been in the UCCS program for nearly a year. The career switch to counseling has been completely different from anything he has done before; however, Rick said it has allowed him to discover things about himself that he may have missed otherwise. He has three children and four grandchildren and enjoys cooking and remodeling his home, which was built in 1884.
Counseling services offered include depression, anxiety, coping with terminal illness, eating disorders, substance abuse, family conflict, life transitions, divorce, conflict mediation, pain management, or any other life challenge.
Both counselors will be in Goodland each Thursday. To schedule a confidential appointment, please call (785) 890-6030.
